I’m tired.
Here’s all the shit we couldn’t cover today:
- Facing pushback from Democrats in Congress who questioned the necessity of a resolution condemning anti-Semitism in response to remarks made by Representative Ilhan Omar, House leadership broadened the resolution to also condemn “anti-Muslim discrimination and bigotry against minorities as hateful expressions of intolerance that are contrary to the values and aspirations of the United States.” Still fucked though. [Washington Post/House of Representatives]
- The resolution passed. But look who voted “no” or “present.” [New York Times/Twitter]
- Meghan McCain decided to weigh in and cried while talking about anti-Semitism and intersectionality on The View. “I take this very personally,” McCain said, adding, “I would go so far as to say I probably verge on being a Zionist as well.” [The Daily Beast]
- Joining other Democratic presidential hopefuls, so did Senator and presidential hopeful Kirsten Gillibrand in a weak-ass statement. [Twitter]
- Progressive House Democrats are challenging Trump’s foreign policy in Venezuela and urging the White House and the State Department to cease the “pursuit of American military-led regime change.” [HuffPost]
- Michael Cohen is suing the Trump Organization, claiming it owes him millions of dollars in “unpaid legal and court fees related to federal investigations that stem from Cohen’s work on the president’s behalf.” [Politico]
- Meanwhile, Paul Manafort is being sentenced today, and faces up to 25 years in prison. [CNN]
- Oops. As part of her “Be Best” tour, Melania visited a charter school run by followers of the Turkish cleric and dissident Fethullah Gülen, leading one state-run Turkish news outlet to speculate whether her visit was “an intentional move or just a faux pas on the part of the administration.” [The Intercept]
- Sure looks like Joe Biden is running. Joe, don’t do it!!! [New York Times]
- So many men running, so many maybe running, but another man that is NOT running for president is Ohio Senator Sherrod Brown. [Washington Post]
- Representative Ayanna Pressley wants to lower the voting age. [C-SPAN Twitter]
- Twist! White nationalists sure love Iowa congressperson and white nationalist Steve King. [HuffPost]
- The ACLU has called on Virginia Governor Ralph Northam to remove a statue of Confederate general Robert E. Lee. Should be an easy choice to make but then again, he did decide to don blackface, so forgive me if I don’t exactly trust his judgment. [CNN]
- The State Department was going to give its International Women of Courage Award to Finnish journalist Jessikka Aro, until it noticed she has repeatedly criticized Donald Trump in her social media posts. [Foreign Policy]
- Jair Bolsonaro is a racist, homophobic, sexist asshole, but this really is something else. [Boing Boing]
- Further proof that the strike is back, just in time for International Womens Day: More than 10,000 nurses in New York City are planning to go on strike. [ABC7]
- Let us all pause to admire New York City Public Advocate Jumaane Williams’s excellent coat. [Twitter]
