I've Watched Zayn Malik's 'Let Me' Video Multiple Times and Still Don't Get It
Entertainment
In the music video for his new single, “Let Me,” former One Directioner Zayn Malik seems to be in the business of delivering suitcases to a number of mob-esque guys. We open on a scene of Malik arriving at the club in what looks like Miami, bearing—yes—a sleek black suitcase and eyeing a blonde-ish girl on the dance floor who looks SUSPICIOUSLY like Gigi Hadid (but that’s none of my business!!!). Cut to: It’s light out, Malik is now in a luxurious apartment building, not-Gigi is there, and he sits down with a guy who looks like every actor cast as a vaguely ethnic drug lord. Again, Malik has a suitcase. “It’s going down tonight,” says the man. What is? Does it involve the suitcase? I’ve watched this several times now and I’m still not sure!
Eventually, Malik meets some guys on a boat who want to shoot him and he manages to leave unscathed. Later, at the club, there’s a fight scene. Not-Gigi turns out to be a killer assassin (or something). The whole thing reads like a Netflix original series about undercover operatives, coastal cities, drugs and dancing, and men with secrets. Unfortunately, the music itself is as bland as the video, and there’s a “To be continued” sign at the end, which doesn’t sit well with me. Does Malik have any friends? Can someone check in on him? Watch the video above.
