Overweight Riders Lead To Change In Bus Safety Rules
LatestThe Federal Transit Authority has proposed raising the average weight per passenger used to calculate bus safety rules from 150 pounds to 175 pounds, and allowing an extra quarter of a square foot of floor space for each rider. The current guides for how many passengers can safety squeeze onto a bus are based on statistics from 1960-62, and the agency says it needs “to acknowledge the expanding girth of the average passenger.”
