Reporter Launches Career-Making Investigation, Discovers Proposal

Latest

MaryAnne Firth was suspicious when mysterious signs depicting hearts (the cute kind, not the anatomical kind) began appearing around Welland, Ontario. But when Firth launched an investigation into the signs she discovered something incredibly shocking: A wedding proposal.

After Firth reported on the initial signs, more signs appeared around town advertising a gathering in the center of town. When Firth arrived, she was greeted by a man wearing a heart-painted (vs. heart-shaped) box who gave her a flower. At this point I would have probably run because this seems like some weird cult stuff, but Firth stayed to continue her report. And it’s a good thing she did because the entire event was a set-up for a very public marriage proposal thought up by Firth’s boyfriend, Ryan St. Denis.

Fortunately for everyone involved, Firth appreciated the proposal and happily said yes. She wrote this in the Welland Tribune:

Ryan got down on one knee, and as I tried but failed to hold back tears, he asked me to spend the rest of my life with him. No pressure, right? Of course I was ecstatic. Shaking. Crying. Of course I said, Yes!

Sounds awesome, but I really need people to bring the extravagant proposals down a few notches so that I have something to look forward to when mine happens. (Great idea for my partner: Make weird comments at me on a burner account, I ban you repeatedly, you reveal yourself and we live happily ever after.)
