Rihanna's New 'What Now' Video Is Definitely Lacking Something (Strippers)

Latest

Rihanna’s video for the latest single off her album Unapologetic, “What Now” is pretty sans plot but very heavy on dramatic head tosses. It’s certainly attempting to elicit some sort of emotion in the viewer, considering Rihanna’s body jolts are interspersed with choppy black and white footage of lions fighting, lightning striking and crosses burning, but is otherwise a little lacking compared to the excitement surrounding Ri Ri’s last music video.

In a behind the scenes video posted earlier this week, Rihanna described “What Now” thusly:

It’s going to be kind of eery, very creepy. Because “What Now” is one of those songs where you can get really boring with the visuals…Everyone’s probably expecting like a narrative type of video, a love story of some sort, or something really soft and pretty. It is pretty and kind of soft but it’s really a little demented.

Pretty and kind of soft but a little demented translates to having a mild Janet Jackson in “Scream” look going on, mixed with a little bit of like, Evanescence?

The whole thing was filmed in Phuket, Thailand, which is – fun fact – where Rihanna accidentally got some dudes arrested.
