Sorry seems to be the hardest word.
LatestWe hate to get all heavy and Oprah on y’all (pardon the pun), but let’s get just a wee bit serious for a moment.
Eighty-four-year-old Jan Ruff O’Herne was 19 when the Japanese marched into Indonesia in 1942 and interned her in a POW camp, where she was forced into a brothel and raped repeatedly for three months, as one of the so-called ‘Comfort Women’.
She kept her secret for 50 years, throughout a marriage, four miscarriages caused by medical problems after her rapes, and the birth of two daughters.
Here you can read the transcript of an interview this remarkable lady and her two daughters gave on Australian TV. It’s a gruelling, but very moving read.
We hope you get that long overdue apology Jan.
