Very Cool: North Korea Launched Yet Another Missile

Latest

On Sunday, May 21, North Korea’s military launched a medium-to-long range ballistic missile, the Pukguksong-2. Dictator Kim Jong Un called for this launch and observed as it was carried out.

The Associated Press reports that this missile resembles another tested by North Korea earlier this year. On Tuesday, the United Nations Security Council will discuss a strategy for responding to these aggressive overtures. The United States, Japan, and South Korea specifically requested this consultation.

South Korea tracked the missile’s flight and determined that it flew roughly 510 kilometers (310 miles) to the east. Both the U.S. and South Korea confirmed that the missile was medium-range.

Inside North Korea, news of the launch was spread via the official Korean Central News Agency. It claimed that the government was “[verifying] technical indexes of the weapon system and [examining] its adaptability under various battle conditions” before releasing them to military units for use.
