If you’ve ever thought that the numbers on the back of fortune cookie messages—22,13,44,57…in bed—were useless, think again and get your take-out menus ready; a 75-year-old woman who played her fortune cookie’s lucky numbers just won two million dollars. (Which means she can now rent a studio in Manhattan.) (Or San Francisco.)
Retired deli owner Emma Duvoll won the money after using the lucky numbers printed on a fortune she received at a restaurant in Greenwich Village. Duvoll plans to invest her winnings (wise!) and splurge on a trip to visit family in Switzerland, where she will no doubt use some of that money to buy several thousand chocolate bars and Kinder Surprises.
The owner of Sammy’s Noodle Shop & Grill, the restaurant where the winning combo was served next to Duvoll’s bill, has jokedthat Duvoll should give the servers twenty percent of her winnings. But this isn’t It Could Happen To You, so that’s probably not going to happen. (Is that movie on Netflix instant? I suddenly have an insatiable desire to watch Rosie Perez throw clothes out a window!)
