The best part about Rue McClanahan’s apartment — which she was about to sell before she died and is featured in the real estate section of The New York Times — is not the spice rack/secret passageway. It’s better:
The door to her office is [a] conversation piece. It is sculptured to look as though a naked woman was walking through it. The woman’s head and one breast extend into the hallway; her hand is the doorknob. From inside the office, you see her backside.
So… To get into her inner sanctum, you have to touch the nude woman just so? Awesome. (And the door in the pantry, disguised as a spice rack, which leads to a bathroom behind the kitchen? Also cool.)
