The Trailer for Lifetime's Saved by the Bell Movie Is Ridiculous

Latest

The first trailer for Lifetime’s Saved by the Bell made for TV movie, The Unauthorized Saved by the Bell Story, premiered today on BuzzFeedand we are in for a treat. The film is based off of disgruntled star Dustin Diamond’s tell-all book where he basically talks shit about all his fellow cast members while revealing their dirty secrets.

This looks bad. Like Lindsay Lohan as Elizabeth Taylor bad, which is to say it will be amazing and I can’t wait.

My immediate reaction to the trailer is that the casting directors had a difficult time to say the least. The girls aren’t that bad, but yikes, this is AC Slater/Mario Lopez.

We start with some anachronism right off that bat. My favorite is that Lisa Turtle/Lark Voorhies is wearing a pair of Michael Kors sneakers that I bought about a year and a half ago and currently wear.

In the clip, we see the cast doing a photoshoot and boy are tensions high at Bayside. Lisa is pissed when she sees Kelly/Tiffani-Amber Thiessen flirting with Zach/Mark-Paul Gosselaar. She broods from the corner while Jessie/Elizabeth Berkley tries to keep the peace.

Screech/Dustin Diamond and Slater get in a pushup contest/teenage boy man-off, which culminates in Screech calling Slater a “prick.”

All of this while Zach looks 42 years-old and completely over it all.

While the film looks very Lifetime-y and ridiculous, there could be some truth here. Teenagers suck. Teenagers who have to work like real adults and then receive inflated paychecks would be monsters. The Unauthorized Saved by the Bell Story, which airs on Lifetime on September 1st, is likely best summed up by a line from an adult in the film, who seems to one of the show’s producers wondering where his life went astray: “The network didn’t kill us, the hormones might.” Indeed.

The Unauthorized Saved by the Bell Story is what live-tweeting was made for.
