Woman Arrested for Riding Sea Turtle
LatestIn today’s dumb criminal news, a Florida woman who rode a sea turtle like a pony was arrested on an active felony warrant. Snapchat images showing 20-year-old Stephanie Moore and another woman sitting on a sea turtle back in July were spread throughout social media. Following the incident, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission asked for help in identifying the turtle-riding culprits. Authorities finally caught up with Moore during a response to a domestic disturbance call on Saturday morning.
Moore was arrested on an active felony warrant for molesting a marine turtle, reports USA Today. Sea turtles are either endangered or threatened and protected under the Federal Endangered Species Act of 1973. According to WESH, Florida’s Marine Turtle Protection Act makes it a third-degree felony to injure, harm, harass, capture or attempt to capture any marine turtles, eggs or nests. Lesson to be learned here: leave sea turtles alone!
Moore was set on a $2,000 bond. The second woman has not been arrested.
