Your Morning Squee: Twin Girls Born Holding Hands

Latest

Identical twins Jillian and Jenna Thistlethwaite were born on Friday with a rare condition in which they shared the same amniotic sac and placenta. When doctors lifted them from their mother’s womb, the girls were holding hands!

Monoamniotic, or “mono mono,” only occurs in about 1 in 10,000 pregnancies, and is considered high-risk. Sarah, Jillian and Jenna’s mom, was put on bed rest in the hospital for about two months before giving birth via C-section on Friday. The condition was so rare that cameras from the local news were granted access to the delivery room.

The girls were removed from ventilators on Sunday after they were able to breathe on their own, and their parents finally got to hold them. Sarah called her daughters “the best Mother’s Day present ever!”

Although, Today—the twins truthers—wanted to clarify the difference between “holding” and “grabbing.”
