The life and times of Whitney Houston will be forever immortalized in a Lifetime film, directed by Oscar-nominee Angela Bassett.
Yes, that’s correct. There is going to be a Lifetime movie about the totally unforgettable life of this Jezebel blogger’s favorite singer.[Stops; takes a moment to breathe calmly and collect herself] Bassett was Houston’s friend and her co-star in the film Waiting to Exhale. Via the Associated Press:
Lifetime said Thursday that the movie will follow the couple through their first meeting and tumultuous marriage, and Houston’s rise to fame. Brown and Houston were divorced at the time of her 2012 drowning death in a hotel bathtub at age 48. The couple’s daughter is 21-year-old Bobbi Kristina Brown.
This will be Bassett’s directorial debut. She released a statement about working on the film:
“I have such regard for both Whitney’s and Bobby’s amazing talents and accomplishments; and I feel a responsibility in the telling of their story,” Bassett said in a statement. “Their humanity and bond fascinates us all. I’m beyond excited to have this opportunity to go behind the camera and into their world.”
It looks like it’s on schedule for a 2015 premiere but I cannot wait that long for this movie. It needs to be made right now as in yesterfreakingday.
There’s no casting announced yet, so consider this a free-for-all time in the comments to speculate wildly and pick your dream people to play the roles of Houston and Bobby Brown. I had to throw my list together quick, but here’s a few names:
Bobby Brown: Donald Glover, Taye Diggs, Michael B. Jordan, Anthony Mackie
Whitney: I just have one, because I think she would own it: Yaya DaCosta. BOOM.
