Catherine Zeta-Jones Treated For Bipolar Disorder

Latest

Publicists for the actress have revealed that she’s received treatment for Bipolar II Disorder.

In a statement, Zeta-Jones’ publicist revealed, “After dealing with the stress of the past year, Catherine made the decision to check in to a mental health facility for a brief stay to treat her Bipolar II Disorder…She’s feeling great and looking forward to starting work this week this week on her two upcoming films.”

He refers, presumably, to husband Michael Douglas’ recent battles with throat cancer. We wish her all best with her treatment and frankly I’m glad to see a public figure admitting to struggles with a mental illness in a time when there’s still stigma attached. Yes, the publicists are being explicit in distinguishing her illness from the more severe Bipolar I Disorder, but it’s nevertheless a small step towards eliminating a painful stigma.
