Jennifer Del Rio and Josh Smith, the teen parents of twin boys, were already all over TMZ for their court battles, restraining orders, and domestic abuse allegations before their episode of 16 & Pregnant even aired last night.
Last week, Smith filed a restraining order against Del Rio after she allegedly punched him in the face. In court documents he claimed that Del Rio is a “compulsive liar” who tricked him into impregnating her by telling him that she was already pregnant so that he wouldn’t use a condom because she was trying to get on the hit MTV.
She was giving me sonogram pictures…that she claimed was ‘our baby’ when in actually [sic] it was her friend’s sonogram pictures she was copying. She lied to me and my parents for 3 months saying she was pregnant. She wanted so desperately to be on ‘Sixteen and Pregnant’.
But on last night’s episode things between the couple seemed pleasant enough for most of the episode—despite the fact that Smith didn’t get along with Del Rio’s parents and wasn’t exactly welcome in their home—even showing a scene in which Smith proposes to Del Rio with a ring and she accepts. The last 10 minutes, however, took a sharp turn with Smith forcing Del Rio out of his car after calling her a “stupid ass bitch” and then speeding off with the passenger side door open while their infant twins were in the back seat. Smith eventually returned and the two engaged in a physical altercation before the cops arrived and carted him off in handcuffs. During her voice over Del Rio explained that Smith only spent one night in jail and she did not press charges.
It was not evident from the episode whether or not Del Rio (a 16-year-old high school freshman) was sophisticated enough to pull off a stunt in which she purposely gets pregnant and lands a coveted spot on a TV show, but given the fact that this couple has twins and a history of domestic violence, they seem like shoe-ins for Teen Mom 3.
