Donald Trump Gives Speech in Front of Mighty Wall of Trash

Politics

Donald Trump, an eggroll to which someone has wastefully glued a hairpiece, gave a speech on trade and economic policy today in front of trash. Just a backdrop of a big mountain of trash. What metaphor?

Backed by all that trash, Trump called for the United States to pull out of the Trans Pacific Partnership, something Bernie Sanders also supports. The Republican Party is a big fan of the TPP:

Sanders wants to pull out of the TPP because he says it would have terrible environmental consequences and would cost Americans jobs. Trump hates it because it privileges foreigners: “It would give up all of our economic leverage to an international commission that would put the interests of foreign countries above our own,” he warned in front of trash. He also said he would renegotiate or withdraw from NAFTA, something he’s actually said for quite a while, even as most Republicans and the party as a whole tend to be in favor of free trade at all costs.

As The Guardian’s Ben Jacobs notes, the transcript of the speech indicates that perhaps Trump son-in-law and New York Observer publisher Jared Kushner had something to do with writing it.

In any case, it’s guaranteed to piss off Republicans, except for one particular Republican who may not legally be allowed to say anything bad about Donald Trump on TV:

But really: huge props on giving a speech in front of a literal mountain of trash. It almost rendered the joke too obvious for all of us to make. Almost.
