Florida Ridiculously Just Won't Give Up On Its Same-Sex Marriage Ban
Florida’s Attorney General, Pam Bondi, has expressed that the apparatus of the state will continue to exhaust all potential avenues in the fight to uphold its same-sex marriage ban.
The decision by the AG and her boss, Governor Rick Scott, to continue fighting the ban comes as the American Civil Liberties Union has asked a judge to end the current stay on the ruling overturning it because of the United States Supreme Court’s decision not to hear any same-sex marriage cases, according to the Miami Herald. The state will challenge the ACLU’s filing, but apparently gave no information on how the filing will be challenged. The governor seems to think that there’s no actual outcome here, but I think to most observers, there was indeed an outcome.
The attorney general is defending Florida’s constitution, which is her duty. This is a matter that will be decided by the courts. Whatever the eventual outcome is from the courts, Florida will of course abide with it.
Oh, Florida. Florida, Florida, Florida. Look, I know this is hard for you, but the fact is that marriage equality is coming to your state. You really, really have to take a page from that one Disney movie everyone keeps talking about and “let it go, let it go,” because you “can’t hold it back anymore.”
You’ve lost. If other states, such as Colorado, can just get on board with it, you can, too. I promise. If nothing else, think about how much money you’re going to get from theme park weddings. You like money, right? I hear you like money.
