I legit adore the way Björk’s Vulnicura has been so upfront and direct about making the vagina-as-heart the focal point of its context, much to the uncomfortable chagrin of creaky boys internet-wide. Imagine if they had to live through the ’70s! All the blood and the periods, my god!
The clip for “Family” is an animated, real-life version of her new Vulnicura album art, or should I say the art is a still from the video it is officially called a “moving album cover.” In this, she weaves together the gaping hole in her chest with yellow thread and mercury balls, and transforms as a full person in sunshiney chartreuse, doing the work on herself to become whole again. Maybe it’s obvious but as performance art, it’s effective and relatable as hell.
