Being a former Catholic school girl whose feminism was actually inspired by the sisters who taught me, it was fascinating to watch the nuns on Oprah today speak about their sexual urges, which they liken to chocolate cravings.
Sometimes I would help the nuns clean the convent after school. Their Jedi mind tricks made us—the female students—believe that this was a privilege. I really only volunteered out of my own nosiness regarding how they lived, where they peed, what their underwear looked like, and the off-chance that I might catch a glimpse of what their hair looked like under their habits. Additionally, after we were done cleaning, the sisters would sit down with us and eat tons of candy, s’mores, and ice cream sundaes. After listening to the nuns on Oprah today compare sex to chocolate, those sweets binges all make so much sense now.
