R.I.P., Socks The Cat

Latest

In sad news: former Presidential pet Socks the Cat, who was rescued by a young Chelsea Clinton and lived with the Clinton family in the White House, has passed away at the age of 20.

“Socks brought much happiness to Chelsea and us over the years, and enjoyment to kids and cat lovers everywhere,” the Clintons said in a statement, “We’re grateful for those memories, and we especially want to thank our good friend, Betty Currie, for taking such loving care of Socks for so many years.” Currie was given the cat when the Clinton’s left the White House, as a gift from the family. “”The truth be known, Betty asked if Socks could come live with her,” says presidential historian Barry Landau, “The Clintons didn’t abandon Socks. They were totally conflicted. It broke their hearts, but they knew it would be the right thing for Socks’ welfare.” Currie had lost a family member and a dog and the Clintons felt that letting her take Socks would be a nice gesture. Socks lived with Currie for many years, enjoying home cooked chicken meals and walks. [People]
