The Society Promises a Very New England Take on Lord of the Flies

Netflix has released a new trailer for its upcoming Lord of the Flies-esque survival thriller, The Society, in which a group of teens suddenly find themselves in a world without adults or anyone else.

The show’s synopsis reads that,

The Society follows a group of teenagers who are mysteriously transported to a facsimile of their wealthy New England town, left without any trace of their parents. As they struggle to figure out what has happened to them and how to get home, they must establish order and form alliances if they want to survive. The series is a modern take on Lord of the Flies.

Based on the trailer, it seems like a level-headed blond girl with Good Bangs emerges as the de facto leader, warning the other teens that “there is no society, not until we start one.” Obviously, a group of floofy-haired teen boys with tell-tale douchebag smirks have a problem with that. “We’re not going to ask for power. We’re going to take it,” says one. At some point, a couple of jocks aim pistols, which truly is a nightmare.

Interestingly, the series is directed by Marc Webb, who is known for his work on both 500 Days of Summer and The Amazing Spider-Man. Diverse!

The series will be released on May 10.
