President Obama went on Jimmy Kimmel Live! last night, and in addition to segments where he talked about Kanye West (“I don’t think I’ve got his home number”), Ferguson, and Hillary Clinton’s email scandal, he participated in the requisite Mean Tweets: President Obama Edition.
Kimmel announced: “From time to time we give celebrities the chance to read some of the mean things people tweet about them. Tonight, we extended that same courtesy to our commander-in-chief.” Well, sort of—these are some pretty tame tweets, and Obama wasn’t fooled: “I have to say, though, those weren’t that mean,” he said. “I’ve got to tell you, you should see the ones the Senate sends about me.”
The Washington Post’s Hunter Schwarz noticed that one of the mean-tweeters says that he’d been co-opted:
