Alan Cumming Explains How a 'Wasted' Shia LaBeouf Disrupted Cabaret
Alan Cumming told Conan O’Brien he forgives Shia LaBeouf for being “wasted,” slapping him on the ass and getting arrested during a performance of Cabaret on Broadway this summer.
“I just want to hear from you what the hell happened,” said O’Brien, echoing the exact same question all of us have been wondering since that night.
“I think he was really messed up,” said Cabaret star Cumming, noting that LaBeouf explained his actions (somewhat) last week. “He was just wasted. And he was wasted from the second he walked into the theater.” Cumming said there was a distinct atmosphere in the theater that night and people were “freaking out” because there was a “crazy person shouting” in the audience. (“There was a LaBeouf quality to the air?” asked O’Brien.)
Cumming said that when he went through the audience to greet theatergoers, LaBeouf “whacked” him on his behind. That bit got a stunned reaction from the audience because yeah, that is gross.
“We’ve all done things where we’ve been out of it and messed up,” said the very understanding and forgiving Cumming. “Not everyone has to deal with it on such a worldwide scale.”
