Facebook's Diversity Report Reveals a Mostly White Dude Workforce
LatestFacebook has released its first diversity report this week which shows that about 90% of it’s U.S. staff is white and Asian while women only make up 31% of its global staff.
“As these numbers show, we have more work to do – a lot more. But the good news is that we’ve begun to make progress,” Facebook’s Global Head of Diversity Maxine Williams said in blog post.
While the non-tech jobs at Facebook are a pretty even split between men and women, there’s a large gender disparity in the tech department, with only 15% being women. Additionally, women only make up 23% of the company’s senior level positions. Facebook is about 90% white and Asian across the board. The company’s diversity numbers are similar to those of Google and Yahoo.
Williams went on to explain how Facebook is “implementing a variety of programs and strategies to help increase the overall pool of talent from underrepresented communities,” and included a bulleted list of the companies current efforts, adding that they’re “absolutely committed to achieving greater diversity at Facebook and across the industry.”
