Jessica Simpson Is Not An Idiot

All of our celebrities have roles to play – bad boy, sex symbol, party gal – and Jessica Simpson has been saddled with “dumb blonde.” To be sure, she had a hand in the script for this part – no matter what she does or where she goes, years later, “Chicken Of The Sea” is mentioned. And although New York magazine’s cover story credits the star with being a “Fashion Mogul,” it also attempts to take her down a notch with a silly cover line. “I’m making a billion dollars off… CLOTHES??!” is not a direct quote, but obviously fits with our predetermined notion that she’s a ditz. I suppose I felt like being glib, so I shot back, “As many as I can go to, without completely losing touch with reality.” And I munched another canapé. Read more »

David LaChapplle is famous for his sexy, colorful, highly saturated and fetish-y images; if you saw Rihanna’s latest video, “S&M” – with its latex and riotous hues – you may have thought it was a great example of LaChappelle’s work. The problem is, he didn’t direct the clip. So he’s suing. Read more »

South Dakota Considers Legalizing The Murder Of Abortion Providers

South Dakota lawmakers are about to consider a bill that would expand the meaning of justifiable homicide to include “resisting an attempt to harm” an unborn child related to the killer, Mother Jones reports. “If the bill passes, it could in theory allow a woman’s father, mother, son, daughter, or husband to kill anyone who tried to provide that woman an abortion-even if she wanted one,” writes Kate Sheppard. Or, as one national advocate put it, it issues an “invitation to murder abortion providers.” Read more »
