Paris Hilton Wears Terry Richardson's Glasses On The Cover Of Vogue
Latest- Here it is! A scant two weeks after Paris Hilton Tweeted about her Vogue Turkey cover shoot, the official artifact has arrived. Somehow, we imagined the combination of Paris Hilton and Terry Richardson would lead to something more…kitschy. [Models.com]
- “Why not wear mismatching shoes? Who says we can’t? I was just having fun.” Reason No. 1,737 we love Helena Bonham Carter: “Sometimes I get it right and I sometimes I get it wrong, but fashion is all about having fun. I think fashion has been hijacked by the fashion industry creating rules on what one should wear and I feel like breaking the mold and seeing that the world won’t crumble.” And what will Bonham Carter wear to the Oscars, given she is nominated for The King’s Speech, pray tell? “Maybe I will wear the exact same dress I wore at the Golden Globes but with matching shoes. Or put the shoes on my head!” [People]
- Heidi Klum has announced a partnership deal with AOL. We have Klum on the teevee, Klum on the perfume counter, and Klum on the magazines; Why shouldn’t we have Klum on teh Internets? In immensely depressing, but unrelated, news, thoroughly worthless robot-run content mill Demand Media had its IPO, and now has a market cap roughly equal to that of the New York Times. [NYPost]
- Here’s Emma Watson, modeling her third (and last) collection for the relatively inexpensive ethical retailer People Tree. [Vogue UK]
- Natalie Portman‘s engagement ring was made from recycled platinum and a mixture of antique and conflict-free new diamonds. [PopEater]
- Naomi Campbell‘s lawyers asked the judge to hold today’s hearing in private, and to seal the transcript of the oral arguments, because publicity might “poison” the jury pool. Campbell and her former longtime agent, Carol White, are suing each other over royalties for a line of branded perfumes, including one named “Naomi Campbell Cat Deluxe With Kisses.” The hearing is scheduled for today in Manhattan, and the judge’s response was not immediately known. [WWD]
- I Am Love costume designer Antonella Cannarozzi has been nominated for an Oscar. In the film, Tilda Swinton‘s character wears a number of ensembles created by Jil Sander designer Raf Simons. [Racked]
- So a W reporter goes to profile Peter Dundas, the Pucci creative director. The W reporter lands at Julia Restoin-Roitfeld‘s birthday party, for which Dundas has dressed Restoin-Roitfeld and her mother, Carine Roitfeld, then the editor-in-chief of Vogue Paris. This is what happens: “The music is deafening; the cigarette smoke is blinding; champagne is flowing copiously; canapés are being shunned. The dancing falls into two camps: conga line (Carine) versus on the banquette (Julia).” A fashion party where people flagrantly violate New York City’s clean-air laws and nobody eats! How unheard-of! But there’s more: “When I explain to the hostess [Carine] that I am writing a profile of Dundas and that I’d be grateful for a quote about the dress she’s wearing, she glares at me, then answers extremely slowly, with the labored patience of a teacher addressing an obtuse child: ‘Peter made. This dress. For me. It is Pucci. PUCCI.'” An editor-in-chief of a fashion magazine whose bedside manner is less than warm! Our breath is taken. (Dollars to uneaten doughnuts this anecdote never would have made it to print in this form were Roitfeld still atop her editorial perch.) [W, via Fashionologie]
- Sofia Vergara swears her collection for KMart will be “very wearable.” Just what we like in a piece of clothing, that it admits the possibility of being worn. [WWD]
- According to someone working on Lady Gaga‘s perfume, the songstress has requested that her namesake scent smell like “blood and semen.” So, like a Tuesday night for her? [Fashionista]
- Miuccia Prada was cagey when asked about the prospects for a Prada IPO in an interview published Monday and Tuesday of this week in Women’s Wear Daily. The luxury company has flirted with, and eventually shied away from, a public listing at least five times in the past decade. Now comes the news that the board has approved plans to list Prada on the Hong Kong exchange. No date or information on the size of the stake to be sold was given, but analysts expect the IPO could happen as soon as July, and value the company at around $6 billion. Hong Kong might seem an interesting choice for a European company — though L’Occitane did their IPO there — but Asia is the world’s strongest market for luxury products right now, in terms of growth. - Reiss is reissuing (say that five times quickly) a version of the cream ruffled dress Kate Middleton wore in her engagement portrait. The fabric will be lighter weight, for spring, and the price will actually be lower ($310 vs. $329) than it was when Middleton bought it. You can get your princess on starting in February. - Christian Louboutin is making custom skates for Johnny Weir, because all is right with the universe today. [The Cut]
- After two years on recession-induced hiatus, the Ebony Fashion Fair is being brought back. Rather than featuring new designer work, as in the past, the touring fashion show will present looks from the immense couture collection of Ebony co-founder Eunice W. Johnson, including garments by Bill Blass, Lanvin, and Nina Ricci. The first event takes place tonight at Macy’s Manhattan flagship. [NYTimes]
- H&M‘s profits fell 10.8% during the last quarter. The company named currency costs and the rising price of cotton, which has been at near-historic highs, as the main reasons. [WWD]
- Brooks Brothers is going to start wholesaling its men’s and children’s lines to Nordstrom, which will sell the brand online and in stores. [WWD]
- Here is your Karl Lagerfeld koan du jour: “Fashion is about evolution or the opposite. There is no option.” [On The Runway]
