- Naomi Campbell‘s lawyers asked the judge to hold today’s hearing in private, and to seal the transcript of the oral arguments, because publicity might “poison” the jury pool. Campbell and her former longtime agent, Carol White, are suing each other over royalties for a line of branded perfumes, including one named “Naomi Campbell Cat Deluxe With Kisses.” The hearing is scheduled for today in Manhattan, and the judge’s response was not immediately known. - So a W reporter goes to profile Peter Dundas, the Pucci creative director. The W reporter lands at Julia Restoin-Roitfeld‘s birthday party, for which Dundas has dressed Restoin-Roitfeld and her mother, Carine Roitfeld, then the editor-in-chief of Vogue Paris. This is what happens: “The music is deafening; the cigarette smoke is blinding; champagne is flowing copiously; canapés are being shunned. The dancing falls into two camps: conga line (Carine) versus on the banquette (Julia).” A fashion party where people flagrantly violate New York City’s clean-air laws and nobody eats! How unheard-of! But there’s more: “When I explain to the hostess [Carine] that I am writing a profile of Dundas and that I’d be grateful for a quote about the dress she’s wearing, she glares at me, then answers extremely slowly, with the labored patience of a teacher addressing an obtuse child: ‘Peter made. - Miuccia Prada was cagey when asked about the prospects for a Prada IPO in an interview published Monday and Tuesday of this week in Women’s Wear Daily. The luxury company has flirted with, and eventually shied away from, a public listing at least five times in the past decade. Now comes the news that the board has approved plans to list Prada on the Hong Kong exchange. No date or information on the size of the stake to be sold was given, but analysts expect the IPO could happen as soon as July, and value the company at around $6 billion. Hong Kong might seem an interesting choice for a European company — though L’Occitane did their IPO there — but Asia is the world’s strongest market for luxury products right now, in terms of growth. - After two years on recession-induced hiatus, the Ebony Fashion Fair is being brought back. Rather than featuring new designer work, as in the past, the touring fashion show will present looks from the immense couture collection of Ebony co-founder Eunice W.
