Saturday Night Social: Give It All To Lucia Popp
Latest
Tonight, we give it up for Lucia Popp, an Austrian-Czech opera singer who turned to music after studying medicine. Popp was a remarkable Viennese operetta singer, who was named an Austrian Kammersängerin. Sadly, she died on this day in 1993, but her beautiful voice still lives on. This one’s in honor of my mother, who lives in Austria and has a resounding passionate love for all the wondrous beauty and culture of her native land. Sorry, mom. I know you lobbied for that extended cut of Falco’s “Rock Me, Amadeus,” but I went with opera instead. Please don’t cut me out of the will.
Well, I’m heading out of here for the rest of the week! I broke Laura Beck’s Pretty in Pink special edition Hummel figurine set when I was looking for a place to hide my vodka from Lindy West. (YOU SHOULDN’T KEEP YOUR DESK SO MESSY, LAURA), so I need to bail before she catches me in here. Thanks for putting up with me, my typos and my radical philosophies surrounding the teachings of Burt Reynolds. (See you later for the Saturday Night Live open thread!)
